SportSims.net's Mock Draft, picks 9-16

04/21/2009
Who should the Lions select with the first overall pick? Want to know where Michael Crabtree will be the best fit? SportSims.net, an online dynasty football franchise simulation, used their simulation's intricate draft routines to determine what the Lions, and other top teams, should select this weekend in the 2009 NFL Draft.

SportSims.net’s draft routines analyzed each team's Roster and used other factors like what GamePlan the team is running in order to create each team's DraftPlan, a prioritized list of the team's draft needs. Because of the draft's “human element,” this Mock Draft is not a prediction of what each team will actually take, but a recommendation of what should be drafted based on each team’s current needs using the DraftPlan Generator used in SportSims.net’s Live Draft.

Pick 9: Green Bay - OLB - Aaron Curry, Wake Forest. The Packers are switching to a 3-4. What better pick than the best 3-4 style OLB in the draft?

Pick 10: San Francisco - QB - Mark Sanchez, USC. The 49ers reached by taking Alex Smith #1 overall. Now Sanchez could fall into their laps at #10.

Pick 11: Buffalo - C - Alex Mack, California. It is a little early for a center, but the Bills need help on the line. And Mack is worth the pick.

Pick 12: Denver - RB - Knowshon Moreno, Georgia. The Broncos really need a QB more, but there are no 1st round QBs left. Plus, the Broncos were left with no RBs after a rash of injuries last year.

Pick 13: Washington - WR - Michael Crabtree, Texas Tech. The Redskins want QB Sanchez and may trade to get him, but they should stay put and draft best player available. That is Crabtree by a mile.

Pick 14: New Orleans - DB - Malcolm Jenkins, Ohio State. Jenkins can be the Saints' playmaker they are missing in the secondary.

Pick 15: Houston - DB - Alphonso Smith, Wake Forest. The Texans' defense has very good players up front, but won't be a playoff caliber defense until they have more help from the DBs.

Pick 16: San Diego - WR - Kenny Brit, Rutgers. While Maclin or Harvin may be the better deep threats, Brit looks too much like Michael Irvin for Chargers coach Norv Turner to ignore.

Check back in with us on Thursday for Picks 17 thru 24.
